Weekly Update

What a week (and a half) it's been!

It's been hot.  I mean really hot.  I know I'm pregnant and that has something to do with it, but I don't know how I'm going to make it through the summer with all of this heat!  Miss L has been missing her outside time when I've been hiding inside standing in front of the open fridge (just kidding - mostly) so when there's been a break in the heat we've been outside playing hard.

Last week we visited a local park.  Miss L has always loved this fire truck.  I thought it was so fun that mister W was excited to see it too.  I guess we'll be keeping this thing occupied for awhile.

Eventually miss L got tired of playing there and moved on to other things.  I just thought it was hilarious that mister W stayed in there for a long time!  We'd brought a picnic lunch and he didn't come out until it was time to eat.  Luckily, the park was slow that day and he didn't have any competition.

Mister W continued his independent streak.  He would just wander off and onto the play equipment.  I'm finding that it's going to be hard to watch miss L and keep mister W from falling to his death.  Luckily the older miss L gets the more mature she gets and I don't have to watch her every second, but every other second is still a good idea.  We'll see what this summer holds!

I also love that I have a picture of miss L almost exactly like this just after mister W was born.  :o)

We had a great OT session last week.  Miss L has just been having a really hard time lately and after some discussion her OT recommended a book to me, "What's Eating Your Child?" by Kelly Dorfman.  She thought that maybe a nutrition problem could be causing some kind of issue irritating miss L's system and maybe I should give the book a read and think about it.  I bought the book, read it and decided that I really think miss L has a dairy intolerance.  SPD is closely linked to lots of nutrition issues, so it's no surprise that the two go hand in hand but I was so surprised how many of the symptoms she had.  Dairy intolerance is simply the inability to digest the protein casein found in cow's milk.  It isn't an allergy, so she can still have dairy in bread, etc, and it isn't lactose intolerance, which is the inability to digest the sugar lactose found in cow's milk.  It means that the casein is irritating miss L's stomach, giving her tummy aches, lining her system with mucus and contributing to the fact that she's a very picky eater.  The picky eating makes it difficult for her body to support her developing nervous system (which already has trouble dealing with SPD).  We added some supplements in to help replace some of the things she's lost through picky eating and just to help support all those important neural pathways.  Anyhow, it's a great read and we've seen a big difference in miss L since we took cow's milk (plus cheese, yogurt, ice cream, etc.) out of her diet and added in a few things.  I'm hoping it continues to go so well!

Last weekend we went on our annual strawberry picking adventure.

Mmmm... fresh strawberries...

I feel awful eating them before we've paid, so we only eat a few, but I think that's one of miss L's favorite parts.

Mister W likes it too!

We found a weird strawberry and decided to take a photo.  It was a little hard to take a photo of though.  :o)

Mister W and his buddy mister C wore coordinating shirts.  :o)

It's great having the two kids.  Sure there are moments where I have to solve territorial disputes or intervene in a game gone wild, but most of the time they are able to entertain one another.  One night while we were getting dinner ready miss L came over and asked for two big spoons, one for her and one for mister W.  She got a bowl and filled it with food and they made their own supper.  It's just so fun to see them play together.

Other than that we've gone to the pool a few times, kept up with our swimming lessons, played outside, played inside, visited the fountains, gone to the doctor (it really is a boy!) and had a wonderful week.

Have a lovely week.  We'll see you soon!
