Another one of the major advantages (as I see it) to homeschooling is that we can take our school away from the classroom and explore all kinds of exciting places and events. When we heard about the Science and Engineering Festival in our nearest big city I was so excited to be able to go and let the kids experience what was there.
Of course, when miss L and mister W found out we were going to ride the train that was really enough excitement for them. :o)
We came out by Chinatown which is always fantastic.
At some point we made it into the festival. It was PACKED. There were planes, buses and boats inside. We made a water filter out of sand and rocks (mister W made the one that filtered the most gunk out!). We looked at a kind of concrete that floats. We checked out how to make a bunch of pennies float on a piece of foil.
Miss L made a card with a mouth.
AND... we met a few friends.
Miss L estimated Gabriella's height (from Sid the Science Kid) and got it exactly right!
We did some building.
Miss L even made a bridge using blocks, pencils and tape that could hold a cup of candies (and then got to keep one as a prize!).
Miss L played a Curious George game with a webcam. I had no idea that it existed but apparently you can find it on the pbs website. Miss L loved it. When you jump, George jumps.
We had a blast and a half. The PBS kids display was definitely our favorite though we didn't get to go on the Magic School Bus. We will certainly be going back next year.
We decided to walk and find a nice outdoor space to sit and play a bit before getting back on the train (mister W had been riding on Brad's back for most of the day). We had a snack at a cafe and enjoyed the beautiful day a bit.
