There's nothing too new to report in the world of twins other than my c-section got postponed by a day due to a scheduling conflict at the hospital. Not a big deal, I just can't wait for it to get here! Speaking of which, I'm officially 30 weeks pregnant now. That's impossible to believe! We only have 8 weeks to go! I did fail my one hour glucose screen and was able to take the three hour glucose tolerance test on Saturday. I'm still waiting for those results and hoping I passed!
This past week was a doozy! L woke up on Tuesday morning fussy and not herself. She hadn't slept the best so we just assumed that it was related to that. During breakfast I noticed that her hands were big. I thought maybe she was just growing, but a few minutes later she couldn't pick up her cup and told me her hands were, "ouchie." Indeed her hands were completely swollen and she had thick rubber band wrists. Her feet were also very swollen. I called the doctor and Brad came home to take her in.
The doctor was baffled. L started to get a few hives, but the doctor didn't think it was an allergic reaction. The swelling didn't seem consistent with that. She sent Brad and L to the lab to have her blood drawn and sent them home. Later that day L's swelling became much worse. Her face became very swollen and every place that she had swelling was covered in hives. The doctor thought that it was probably the stretching in her skin that was causing the hives and the poor baby was miserable. The doctor was worried about kidney problems and sent us to the nephrologist Wednesday morning.
Wednesday was just the same as Tuesday. More swelling and hives and no explanation. She went to the nephrologist who was able to rule out a kidney problem (thank goodness) and we were sent home. We went back to the doctor on Thursday. L's bloodwork was back and was normal and the doctor thought that since all else had failed perhaps it was an allergic reaction after all. Friday followed with more swelling, but Saturday she seemed to turn around and now she has no swelling or hives at all.
We're still at a loss for why she was swelling. Since then we've analyzed all kinds of things that she puts in her mouth. She tastes her lotion and sometimes the soap in the bathroom. It may have been that she got too much of either of those. It could be the advent candy we have in the advent calendar that is a muffin tin covered in spray paint that may be off gassing. We really have no idea. We've switched out the candy for some in wrappers and are watching her closely to make sure she doesn't eat lotion or soap. We'll see if it happens again. It sure was scary while it was going on!
We've had a very normal couple of days though. I'm nesting a bit and Brad either feels sorry for me or knows it's a losing battle to resist. He's been magnificent doing all of the things that I feel like I desperately need him to do. Yesterday it was cleaning out the kitchen cabinets so we'd have space for all those baby bottles. I'm excited to say it got finished!
We finished the weekend out strong with a little family cooking time. The biggest bummer about being on bedrest is that I feel like I'm missing out on so many things this time of year. I want to be up and cooking and baking and doing crafts and projects and I just can't. I know in the end it really won't make a difference, but it is kind of sad. The good news is that Brad is more than happy to take on these sometimes frustrating, but mostly really fun projects and let me watch and tell him how to do it right. :o) Cookie making was no exception. He did eventually let me in on the cookie action though, but not for long.
I was able to take photos. Did I mention that Brad got a new haircut?

L helped her daddy from her stool. She mixed when there was mixing and dumped when there was dumping. She had a blast!

Daddy had to roll the cookies out himself, during which I think there was a little craziness and L lost her hair ribbon. These things happen.

Oh... nope that hair ribbon is right there. I guess that comes later. :o)

Then I decided I just couldn't take it anymore and I decided to help. It's against the rules, yes, but I promise not to do it too often. Plus... I don't have any doctor's visits this week so this goes in exchange for those.

I included this one just because of the giant belly in the background. It's owner can't seem to remember where the end of it is and so it constantly has stuff all over it.

I'm not the only one with stuff on me though. I'm just saying.

We cut cookies until the dough was gone (or we lost interest, whichever came first).

We then played and ate dinner. This is probably where the ribbon actually came off. After dinner but before bedtime we decided to tackle the icing. Daddy made the icing while L helped. After it was done beating, L became familiar with a childhood tradition that I think she's going to want to keep. We let her lick the beater. She was very happy with that.

Then it was time to decorate cookies. It took a little convincing to get L to decorate the cookies instead of just wanting to eat them, but she figured out that it was fun and had a great time spreading the icing and dumping plenty of sprinkles on her cookies.

She ate and we played and ate and played. It was a truly wonderful time and it really made me feel like we were still having some holiday traditions going on even while I am on bedrest.

Cookie making was truly a success. I was worried about her going to bed right after this sugar fest, but it was perfect. She was TIRED! She went right to sleep!

One of the biggest blessings I've had during this time of being down and out is having friends who are able to come by and visit. It makes it more normal for me and for L too, since many times she has a little playdate as a part of these visits. This morning our L's little friend C came by to hang out for awhile. It was so lovely to chat with his mom and the kids had a blast making gingerbread houses.

C spent more time decorating his, but L couldn't resist. She actually wasn't crazy at all about the candy, but she couldn't help herself when it came to the icing.

I did try to sit in just one place and just bend the rules a little rather than breaking them altogether today. I do promise to spend the rest of the day lying down properly. :o) It was too much fun though! So I sat and snapped a few photos. Mawmaw helped L with her creation.

What an awesome day! L is currently in another sugar coma and I'm about to join her. It's been a big week, but a great one. I can't believe it's only 11 days until Christmas! I promise to follow the rules and lay down the rest of the week. I'll prove it in next week's photos. See you then!
