Weekly Update

Well, this week mama was sick which you know means we didn't do a darn thing. My children are sick of being indoors and bored of their toys and my husband probably wishes that he had some clean clothes, but hasn't complained so far. I have quite a cold, but it seems to be on its way out. Let's hope so! I'm not sure how much longer miss L can take being cooped up in the house. L and W both got stuffy noses and a cough, but never seemed to miss a beat. I usually never get sick (I credit my teaching experience) but this week has been rough!

We did get the toys r us catalog in the mail. Brad and I both have fond memories of marking up the JCPenney catalog and having watched some really cute videos of miss L's Minnesota buddy T marking up his, I had to let miss L circle her favorite items. Needless to say, most of the items got circled with declarations of, "I want this at my house!" It was cute in a consumer-y sort of way. :o)

Sweet baby W played alongside us on the floor watching the commotion. (and yes, I dress my son in his sister's old pajamas. I gotta use those hand me downs somehow!)

Sweet baby W also turned 9 months old. Nine. Months. Can you believe it? I can't!

At nine months, sweet baby W can scoot around (army crawl), inchworm on his back and roll to get pretty much wherever he wants to go. He can pull up to his knees to get things off of table surfaces and he can go from laying down to sitting. Sweet baby W can clap and wave and can now steal toys away from his sister. He's also started to show his temper. When toys are taken from him or something happens that he doesn't like he gets mad and red, clenching his fists and shaking. It's cute (for now). Sweet baby W eats three solid meals at the table and sometimes adds in a snack. He's eating purees still, but also adding in table foods. He and his sister both often have spinach pancakes and cheese for lunch. He's still nursing five or six times a day including twice overnight. I just don't have the heart to encourage him to quit. I know how fast this time passes and I don't know if I'll ever have anymore babies in my house. I'm just trying to eek out every last moment of baby I can.

Sweet baby W visited the doctor last week measuring it at 28.5" long and weighing in at 21 lbs 8 oz. Believe it or not that's the 60th percentile. He seems like such a chunky guy that I always think he must be way bigger than that. He's consistently crossed percentiles though, keep in mind that when he was born he was in the 5th percentile! If growing and playing are a baby's jobs, then sweet baby W is doing very good work indeed.

Sweet baby W loves cars of any kind. I don't remember miss L globbing on to any certain toy when she was a baby, but sweet baby W just seems to be very attracted to anything with wheels that he can spin. Oh, and he also likes anything miss L has in her hands. I can't believe that the sibling rivalry has started already.

Miss L is nearly constantly annoyed with sweet baby W, having to share her toys with him, share her parents with him, and of course has to look on as he gets all kinds of attention for stuff she does all the time. Yet at the same time she lights up when she sees him and keeps him safe taking things away from him that he can't have. She wants to be the first in his room when he wakes up and asks after him when he's out of the room. She watches him closely around her friends and gets upset when they start to do things that might hurt him (like give him something too small). It's REALLY cute to watch them develop this little relationship even as he is still a baby. Last night she told me, "I don't like baby W. I want him to go away. I want him to leave my house." Then today its all love. I'm just guessing this is all normal.

Sweet baby W still isn't sleeping all that great, but I think it's just who he is, because he's happy and healthy. Miss L napped twice a day for two hours. Sweet baby W sleeps twice a day for 30 or 45 minutes and then ends up going down for the night around 9:30 or 10:00 and up around 7:30 or 8:00. I keep telling people that I'm just glad that he's not the first. I needed that time with miss L. With sweet baby W I'm up with miss L anyhow so it's not a big deal. It's probably better even since we can get out of the house as needed.

OH! and sweet baby W finally got his first tooth this week. It's barely in and we can definitely see another on the bottom and the two on top coming in. So stay tuned for some snaggle toothed grinning shortly!

AND... now that you've read all my babble it's time to get to the good part. The elephant photos! I took these while Brad was at work so it was just me and miss L trying to corral sweet baby W on the couch. He's not afraid of falling off the couch quite yet, so he keeps trying to just crawl right off.

I couldn't get him much interested in the elephant but he was happy to have his photo taken.

Miss L was "sitting" next to him while I was taking the photos so that she could grab him if he lunged. He really wanted to get over to her.

Then I'd set him back up for another photo.

Eventually miss L picked up my laptop telling me, "I just checking my a-mail." She stopped paying attention though and a W monster was creeping up behind her.

He just loves beads. I think he thinks that miss L wears them just for him.

I caught him just before the tug.

I just love these little pudgy hands.

I love this photo. I think he finally resigned himself to the fact that I was going to keep moving him back over so he decided to just sit for a minute and get it overwith. I just love the expression. I have a feeling I'll be seeing that one when he's 13.

More of miss L checking her "a-mail." I realized that I must tell her, just let me check my email and then we'll do ...

And that's about it for this week. Grandma is coming to visit this week so I'm sure we'll have tons of fun photos next week. In the meantime I really ought to try and clean this house. As for now, I've got a rare moment with two kids asleep. I think miss L fell asleep watching tv for the second time ever this afternoon and sweet baby W woke up once from a nap and then went back to sleep. I can't waste this opportunity for a nap, can I?!

See you next week!
