Our New Wheels

A few weeks before our trip I got a new bike. We were at REI and they were having their big sale and we've been trying to be more active so the time seemed to be right. That day we borrowed a bike trailer from a close friend to try it out and see how we liked it. The plan was that miss L would ride her own bike while the boys sat in the trailer..

We went on a couple of rides that way. Sweet little man would do nothing but scream the entire time he rode in the trailer and miss L would do nothing but complain about her legs when we'd try to ride further than she was used to going. It was clear that the trailer we had just wasn't going to work, but we really wanted to make SOMETHING work.

We did some research online. The trailer we borrowed was a fairly standard model. It was just fine, but it didn't have a supported seat or suspension. From what I read, it seemed that both of those were important for sweet little man. Likely he was complaining so much because the ride was so bumpy.

After some looking and reading we found a trailer that we really liked. It has a roll bar, a supported seat, suspension, added room and reinforcement on the sides, a very fine mesh netting on the front, a cargo space and LOTS of ventilation. It's kind of perfect. Also, it's orange and that happens to go perfectly with my lime green bike. Miss L pointed out that it also has snack and drink holders. We like it!

So far we've taken it out on several long rides. At this point I'm pulling the new trailer and Brad is pulling the borrowed one. Usually miss L is in my trailer (because she can wear a helmet without accidentally smacking sweet little man in the head since he cannot yet wear one) with sweet little man and mister W rides behind his dad. We're planning to get a front mounted seat for Brad's bike for mister W to ride in. We've also thought that we might like to get a tandem bike attachment for miss L at some point. Our goal is to ride the farmer's market each weekend, a 17 mile round trip ride. We need to take the plunge and go for it (and maybe trade trailers...). :o)
