VACATION! Sunday and Monday

In February of 2011 I had been talking to my mom about taking a trip to Orlando, Florida in October of 2011. In fact, one day while I was talking on the phone with her about that I decided I had a nagging feeling that I needed to figure out. I got off the phone and found an old pregnancy test in a drawer (I took one every day with the twins until I saw those beautiful heart beats on the screen) and discovered that October of 2011 was not going to be a good time for me to take any kind of vacation.

Since sweet little man made his arrival safe and sound, it seemed like May of 2012 might be the right time to take that vacation after all. My parents, my sister and her son and our family rented a house in the Orlando area and made plans for an early summer vacation.

We had planned to leave our house on Sunday morning around 3:30am. The drive to Orlando is around 14 hours and we wanted to be certain that we arrived with enough time to do something in the evening. As the week before our trip wore on we just found that we couldn't wait! So Saturday morning we started getting ready to leave that afternoon. Due to some unforeseen circumstances (mostly that Brad's car was smashed by another car that day - ugh!) we didn't get off when we had hoped and so we left around 6:00 on Saturday the 26th.

Sunday we were up bright and early though and the kids were pumped to be going to Disney World! We texted a lot that day with my parents and sister on their location and ended up arriving in Orlando with plenty of time to go out for dinner. We wanted to go to Downtown Disney, so that's what we did!

The first place we saw was the T-Rex restaurant. We'd taken miss L there when she was much younger and knew the sort of thing we were getting into. Think Rainforest Cafe with dinosaurs. It was packed and LOUD, but I think it was definitely fun and judging by the fact that the kids kept asking to go back, I think they enjoyed it. Mister W was nervous about the "meteor shower" that happened every 20 minutes, but was able to enjoy his time there anyway.

In the time it took our table to get ready we explored the area. We played in the lego store and found a cinderella!

Monday morning was Memorial Day and my Dad's birthday. We planned a great start, breakfast at Cape May with Minnie, Donald and Goofy!

I love this shot of them walking toward the hotel where the restaurant was. We were all super excited!

The food was really tasty! This was cousin K's plate (I believe). Gotta love mickey mouse waffles! I liked that I could eat my no sugar, lower carb diet easily and tastily. I definitely recommend the Cape May breakfast!

We told the kids about a week before leaving that we were making the trip. We'd debated on when to tell them (including maybe not at all until we got there) and decided that a week before was perfect. During that week we talked about what we would do and who we would see. We know that mister W is a nervous guy and we knew that he'd be terrified to see the characters. We tried to tell him about who he would see and that they were just regular people in costumes and not to be afraid. This breakfast was our first test and he was not excited about it. He tolerated the characters. We were able to warn him when they were coming, but he did not want to actually touch any!

Donald was the first character to come by our table.

We'd reported my dad's birthday on our reservation when we'd booked our meal. Donald came to the table to sing happy birthday to him and he got a button that said it was his birthday. He even got a card signed by Minnie, Donald and Goofy. It was really fantastic!

Sweet little man enjoyed the breakfast too!

We got a family shot with Goofy. I love mister W in this one.

The Magic Kingdom is just hard to access. Even though all we had was breakfast by the time we actually got through the ticket counter, the monorail and into the park it was afternoon. We had an appointment at The Pirate's League for cousin K and miss L to turn into a pirate and a mermaid (I tried to convince miss L to go for the pirate, but she was set on that mermaid and it really turned out!). It was a blast. Miss L had to sign a paper that said that after she turned into a mermaid that she wouldn't sink any ships or hurt any sailors. Then it was off to have her transformation. She was a pro! The makeup artist painted her nails since mermaids get lots of sea foam on their fingers from digging in the water. Then he did some pretty intricate eye makeup. She sat still as can be with her eyes shut for the longest time. I think she's ready for some spa treatments. :o)

The finished product was pretty adorable. She got a fancy hair clip and necklace along with a sash and Mawmaw and Pawpaw even got her the fancy mermaid skirt she wanted.

We spent the rest of our day riding rides. Sweet little man enjoyed himself enough, though there wasn't too much fun for him. He did get his naps in though...

Here's everyone giving a thumbs up (notice mister W's thumbs) before the Aladdin Magic Carpet ride.

We finished the day with thunder mountain and splash mountain. The day was really damp, it rained off and on, but that was no big deal. The lines were pretty short and the park was pretty empty. We got to see a few princesses with less than five minutes spent in line. All in all a really fun day! Lots of memories!
